Attention budget geeks – more documents from the conference committee

If you are one of those who should know what’s happening at the budget conference committee, but just couldn’t face hanging out in a hot and stuffy hearing room until 10 last night…this blog is for you.

Commissioner of Finance Tom Hanson was on hand last night to represent the Governor. He handed out a document, Governor’s Supplemental Budget Concerns, which shares some of the Governor’s specific objections to the House and Senate proposals for each budget area. This gives us a sense of some of the areas where the Governor will be looking for compromise.

They also handed out a list of all the “same and similar” language in the House and Senate budget bills. These are areas where the conference committee is likely to come to an easy agreeement to include in the final conference committee report. Remember, however, that these items often have a fiscal impact, which means their ultimate fate will depend on the global targets that the Governor, House and Senate eventually agree to. The handout I’ve posted includes my (fairly complete) notes indicating which provisions they adopted last night.
